AN ELLON couple have chalked up the miles - and cash - for charity.

George and Frances Jaffray, who call themselves the Golden Oldies, tackled the Formartine and Buchan Way this month in aid of the Eve Appeal, and have raised more than £460 so far.

The campaign was launched in 2005 in an attempt to help save women’s lives by funding research into gynaecological cancers and raising awareness of the diseases.

Frances lost her sister Elizabeth to ovarian cancer in 2005 and the couple, who will both be 70 this year, chose the charity for this year’s fundraiser.

In recent years they have walked the West Highland Way, the Speyside Way and the Fife Coastal Path, gathering nearly £2,000 for charitable causes.

Frances said they wanted to thank all those who have donated, or helped in any way - in particular family, friends, neighbours, Ellon Ramblers, staff and volunteers of St Mary’s Day Centre, Ellon, and Ellon Royal British Legion regulars.

The Jaffrays covered the 56-mile walk along the Formartine/Buchan line over 18 hours on five separate days earlier this month.
