A METHLICK couple who raised hundreds of pounds for their local doctors’ surgery have been thanked for their generosity.

Isabel and Peter Stuart of Mansefield, Methlick, presented their cheque for £600 to nurses Kathleen Taylor and Megan Smith on Tuesday at their home in the village.

The couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on February 9, at a surprise party at the Beaton Hall thrown by friends and family. Money raised from the event was then gifted to NHS Grampian, in recognition of the family’s good relationship with local health practitioners.

The couple, who married in 1953 and have four children and five grandchildren, are ‘weel kent’ faces in the village.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, nurse Kathleen told the Times that the donation would go towards new equipment for the local community’s benefit, including doppler technology for testing blood circulation in patients.

She told the Times: “This is the third donation from the Stuart family, and it’s hugely generous of them. The money will be put to good use.”

Mrs Stuart told the Times that the couple’s anniversary party had been a bolt from the blue, and that friends and family had done well to keep it a secret.

“Even our neighbours knew, but never let on to us,” she said. “It was a complete surprise.”

She added that she and husband Peter were pleased to see the funds raised go to the local surgery, and thanked their friends and family for the dozens of cards they had received.
