A YOUNG girl who lives with type-1 diabetes has made a generous donation to Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
Samantha Hanson, who is 11, handed over a cheque for £474.50 to ARCHIE representative Sarah Daniel at the hospital last week, after she was inspired by her time at the High Dependency Unit to raise money.
Samantha was admitted to the children’s hospital earlier this year after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. By way of thanks, the Peterhead youngster - who is a keen cyclist - decided to undertake a 10-mile sponsored cycle between Peterhead and Aden Park.
Samantha is the third member of her family to make a donation to the hospital in less than a year: grandparents June and Kenny Fyfe, and uncle Ian Fyfe have made donations previously to the hospital’s melanoma research programme.
Samantha said: “ A lot of my sponsors were friends and family, and I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me.”
Mother Janice, who works in JRDs and the New Inn at Ellon, told the Times that she echoed her daughter’s sentiments.
“A lot of people sponsored Samantha, and we’re very grateful - their donations will be going to a good cause.”
