Home-Start Garioch is looking for new volunteers for Ellon and the surrounding area.

Volunteers provide practical and emotional support to families in need with young children.

The service has been supporting families in Garioch for over 20 years and has been working in the Formartine area for two years.

Mhairi Philip of Home-Start said: “Our volunteers are special, not professional.

“They are mums themselves who have experienced the day to day challenges that all parents with young children face and feel that they would like to share their coping skills, a problem shared is a problem halved.

“Just having a volunteer for a couple of hours one day a week can make all the difference.

“We all manage to deal with the huge hurdles which come our way, its the little things which often overwhelm us, two children under 5 and a doctor appointment seems so difficult, that five minute appointment can cause a day worry and tension.

“Knowing you have a volunteer to come with you to help you get the children in and out the car, amuse one while you take the other in to see the doctor makes that appointment maagable, that is one of the ways our volunteers support their families.”

Service staff will be at the Kirk Centre Coffee Shop in Ellon on Thursday, August 25 from 10am to 1pm, and the Home-Start office in Lumphart Cottage on Port Road, Inverurie on Wednesday, August 21 from 1o-11.30am to provide information.
