East Garioch councillor Martin Ford has welcomed the decision by Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee not to include land allocations for up to 495 additional houses in Newmachar in the next Local Development Plan (LDP).
At its meeting on May 28, the Council’s Garioch Area Committee had voted to support developer bids for additional housing allocations in Newmachar. This was despite opposition from local councillors Martin Ford and Nan Cullinane and the Area Committee having agreed, earlier in the same meeting, that no additional housing land was needed to accommodate forecast demand.
If the two additional developer bid sites supported by the Area Committee were included in the next LDP, along with sites carried over from the current LDP, up to 960 houses could have been built in Newmachar, virtually doubling the size of the village in just a few years.
But on Thursday, (July 3) the Infrastructure Services Committee over-ruled the Area Committee’s decision and agreed that no additional land should be allocated for housing in Newmachar in the next LDP beyond that already included in the current LDP.
