A special concert was held at Haddo House last month thanks to the hard work of the Lead Scotland scope group.

The free concert was organised after the group won a competition from Young Scot to put on an event in their community with a £1000 budget.

Young Scot representative, June Osbourne said she had enjoyed the day thoroughly and that it was a fantastic achievement for all those involved.

The scope group aim to support youngsters that face barriers in their daily life. They meet at Ellon Resource Centre where they rely heavily on funding to keep the project running.

After the group won the competition it was up to them to pick the location for the concert, sort out the programme, organise the photography, make the signs, design hoodies, right up to advertising the event beforehand.

Various organisations from the local community stepped in to support the group including the Grampian Concert Orchestra, The Tarves folk Club and John and his club. The Red Cross in Ellon had their own stall and the town’s Ythan Bakery served up delicious scones and pancakes. Lead Scotland volunteer, William L Maycock who has recently gained employment with The Owl and the Pussycat Centre was also invited to receive the Saltire Award for 500 hours of volunteering with both the group as well as the centre.

The group would like to thank the following people for their help and support: Carole from Ellon’s Tesco, Lynn and Bob from Deveron Leisure, Kelly from Delicious, Val Smith, volunteers, parents/carers and families.

The youngsters received over £80 in donations which they plan to put towards organising a trip for all those involved in organising the event.
