Kintore Rotarians have been hearing about life on the Falklands.

Club members were given an extremely interesting talk at their meeting last Thursday by former Falkland Islands Government chief executive Ronnie Sampson.

Mr Sampson served in the position from April, 1989, until September, 1994, following a military career.

He was made a CBE after his retirement in 1994.

Mr Sampson gave his audience a thrilling insight into life on the islands both before and after the 1982 conflict, and brought a bit of humour to his talk.

During his time as chief executive, he worked to improve the infrastructure of the islands in the wake of the war.

Mmebers also had a collection for Books Abroad.

The organisation was founded as LINK in 1982 by Keith Brunskill, a teacher at Banff Academy.

Books Abroad promotes literacy, education and understanding.

It recycles used books by sending them to schools and other institutions in developing countries.
