15-year old author signs books at Academy library

A 15-year old Ellon Academy pupil has celebrated the publication of his first book in a special book signing and launch ceremony at Ellon Academy’s library.

Jonathan ‘Jono’ McDermott’s fantasy/sci-fi book, ‘Neo Ninjitsu’ is now on sale online and in local book shops, published by Cauliay Books. Neo-Nijitsu follows the story of a geeky schoolboy who discovers a hitherto unknown talent as a ninja, and subsequently fights an evil mastermind from outer space.

The launch in the school’s library was attended by local media outlets as well as teachers, friends and family, with Jono himself on hand to sign copies of his book and answer questions about the story.

Speaking at the launch and signing, Better Read Books owner Bill Kelly described the publication of Jono’s book as “no mean feat.”

“For Jono to have written - and been published - at the age of 15 is something truly remarkable,” he said. “Much older people would find that task daunting. Jono has been nurtured by his parents - and this school - in his love of books and writing. The ambience and environment that has surrounded Jono is an inspiration. to us all.”

The talented schoolboy - who passed his standard grade English course in one year instead of the usual two - is also in the process of adapting the script for performance at the Lemon Tree, while undertaking Highers at Ellon Academy.
