North East schoolchildren are being encouraged to enter the popular annual awards dedicated to the memory of Anne Frank.

The GREC Anne Frank Awards 2013, run by Grampian Regional Equality Council (GREC), celebrates diversity, equality and human rights.

Last year’s event, which received a record number of entries, was won by Meldrum Academy.

The awards are now open to all primary and secondary-aged pupils at schools across Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray. They have until Friday, March 29, to submit entries.

Steve Roberts, awards co-ordinator at GREC, said: “The GREC Anne Frank Awards are always a highlight in our programme of events. After last year’s success, it will be interesting to see if 2013 can surpass those high standards.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating the excellent work already done in schools throughout the north-east to promote equality, diversity and human rights.”

The awards, which are again being supported by commercial cleaning specialist Contract Solutions Grampian (CSG), will be presented on Friday, May 3. All participating pupils will receive a GREC Anne Frank Awards certificate for their efforts.

Calum Johnston, CSG commercial director, said: “We’re delighted to continue to support this worthwhile competition for North-east schools where pupils celebrate diversity and promote equality and harmony.”
