Nearly £1000 has been raised at a summer party organised by a small school near Ellon which has only 20 pupils.

Arnage Primary School held their annual garden party and barbecue recently and after an early morning of showers the sun shone down on the visitors throughout the afternoon.

Events kicked off with a mini baton relay involving the pre-school kids and the
older children.

Plenty games ensured that there was something for everyone - ranging from Beat the Goalie and Welly throwing competitions.

Ellon and District Councillor Rob Merson was on hand to present some of the prizes to the worthy winners.

Parent council chair, Emma Dawson said that the annual day went extremely well.

She said: “As usual we were really well supported by local businesses by way of raffle prizes, families and friends of the school for the help they provide and local, and not so local, people who came along to enjoy the day and support a small school.

“We are also really grateful to GAP for providing a generator for the day and to Delica for the meat for the barbecue.

“Monies are still being counted but we hope to have raised around £800 from
the day.”

The show ring was a hive of activity starting with a children’s fancy dress, which saw every child pick up a winners medal for their specific category. This was followed by the hugely popular pet show, judged by local Glenythan vet - Jill Shand.

Margaret Hepburn kept herself busy as she judged the produce and baking entries and the children’s categories inside the school, while the popular ‘garden in a box’ section was judged by head teacher Margaret Rattray.

A classroom had also been transformed into an art gallery with work produced by the pupils. The craft ladies from Ellon had a Macmillan stall, while a bouncy castle was provided by the local playgroup. The food was second to none with a choice of cakes, pastries and tea in china cups from the vintage tea room to a spectacular barbecue with specialist meat served up with a tasty salad.
