A visit to Berlin proved inspirational to an Ellon fashion student.

Emma Cantlay, 21, is preparing to put her work on display at Gray’s School of Art as part of her final Degree Show this month.

She was inspired to create her six-piece collection after a visit to the German capital sparked an interest in the city’s subway map.

The former Ellon Academy pupil said: “I visited the city last year and was just fascinated by the underground maps.

“There is a red line running through each of my pieces which, when matched up correctly, make up one of the subway lines.

“I have gone for an ‘urban adventurer’ feel for the clothes – it is a very practical collection, using a lot of waxed cotton and wools.”

Emma, who will graduate with a BA (Hons) in fashion design next month, further developed her idea by hosting a photo-shoot on Glasgow’s underground system – which attracted a few puzzled looks from passengers.

The student, whose work will be displayed at Gray’s School of Art from Saturday, June 21 to Saturday, June 28, added: “I’m really excited about both the Degree Show and the fashion shows taking place that week as it is the culmination of a lot of hard work and it will be great to see it all come together.”

A show featuring work by fashion design students, including Emma, will be held on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, at RGU’s Riverside East building at Garthdee.
