Cllr: Market Street canopy enhances town
AN ELLON councillor has welcomed the erection of a new canopy which, he says, will provide shelter for community events.
Cllr Rob Merson said that the glazed canopy over the town’s Market Street toilets had taken a long time to construct after delays, but added that the facility would enhance the town.
He said: “It occurred to me some time ago that Ellon did not have a suitable covered area to act as a focus for community events, and in a discussion about potential town centre improvements, I took the opportunity to suggest, that we might consider the addition of a glazed roof canopy over the terrace on Market Street. I felt that such an addition could provide a useful all-weather facility for civic and community events such as the annual Christmas fireworks display, the pedal car race and taking the salute at the Remembrance Day Parade to name just a few.
“Council officers were tasked with researching the possibilities, and we were pleased to learn that a suitable structure could be bought ‘off-the-shelf’ from a manufacturer of street furniture, and could also be erected at a very reasonable cost.
“I hope that it will prove to be a welcome enhancement to the town centre.”
