Community Council seeks new members
Udny Community Council is gearing up for it’s annual elections which, present members hope, will bring new members and fresh blood to the body.
The Community Council received national press coverage last year, after the completion of one of Scotland’s few comprehensively community owned wind turbine projects. The project will bring hundreds of thousands of pounds into the local area, to be spent by a specially created community trust for the benefit of local residents.
Chairman Brian McDougall told the Times that he hoped there would be local uptake on the opportunity to stand for the body. “The council has had some notable successes especially in the past year and it would be good to keep this up by getting new members to join us and take forward new projects,” he told the Times.
As well as the community turbine, the group have also spearheaded a local composting co-operative, hosted consultation events and campaigned for the local GP surgery to retain dispensing.
The group meet on the third Thursday of each month, alternating between Udny Green and Pitmedden schools. Nomination papers should be returned to Formartine Area Manager Keith Newton, Aberdeenshire Council, 29 Bridge Street, Ellon, by Friday, March 2.
