Council update on flooding work
COUNCILLORS have received an update on work carried out after severe flooding affected many parts of Aberdeenshire.
Harbours, bridges, roads, businesses and homes suffered during the two December storms, leading to an estimated £2 million of damage to council infrastructure alone.
Stonehaven was among the communities hardest hit, with 140 properties affected.
The council’s policy and resources committee considered a report by head of roads and landscape services, Philip McKay, on the 170 weather-related incidents.
Following the creation of a temporary footbridge at Hatton, work is underway to establish a temporary road bridge for the community while a permanent solution to the collapse of the original bridge is developed.
Committee chairman Councillor Jim Gifford praised the efforts of communities, staff and partners during the ‘horrendous’ conditions.
