DJ Dizzy set for marathon show

Waiting for Video...

A North East DJ is gearing up for a marathon 25-hour radio show to raise money for a community radio station.

The show, which will kick off at 2pm on Wednesday, March 26, will see Dave Heron hosting a whole host of music programmes non-stop on Buchan Community Radio (BCR).

Mr Heron will run through his ‘Shang-A-Lang’ Bay City Rollers tribute programme, his Sounds of the 70s show and his Status Quo show throughout the day to give his international audience a chance to tune in.

The aim is to raise at least £1,000 towards a FM license.

Mr Heron, who lives in Inverurie, said: “I’ve done a 24-hour show before on a commercial station and I said never again.

“But now I’m at BCR. This station is the way forward.

“Community radio is taking the lead because people can relate to it.

“I also think people will relate to the show I’m doing because a lot of them out there are stuck behind a desk for seven or eight hours at a time.”

Mr Heron, who is more commonly known as DJ Dizzy, will not be alone for his marathon mission.

Other BCR presenters will be dropping in and DJ Dizzy hopes to be joined by former Bay City Rollers lead singer Les McKeown.

DJ Dizzy continued: “Time difference is a crazy thing. We know where people are listening from because they post about it on our Facebook page.

“We’ve got listeners everywhere from Shetland to Singapore.

“We know people are actually setting alarms to get up in the middle of the night to tune in to hear the Bay City Rollers.

“A marathon show like this will make it easier for them because I’ll be repeating all three of my shows across the 25 hours.”

Mr Heron and the BCR management are now appealing to local businesses to support the show.

He said: “Everyone who sponsors us will get a mention on the hour, every hour.”

They will also be posting a list of sponsors on the station’s Facebook page.

You can listen to BCR through their website or via Tune In.
