East Garioch councillor is new Deputy Leader

East Garioch Councillor Fergie Hood has been unanimously elected as Deputy Leader of Aberdeenshire Council’s Liberal Democrat group.

And Banchory and Mid-Deeside councillor Karen Clark is the new Group leader following unanimous votes for both at the Group’s AGM last week.

Cllr Fergus Hood said, “I look forward to working alongside Karen and supporting her and the rest of the Liberal Democrat team as we work to deliver the commitments made in 2012.

“We know that Aberdeenshire Council faces huge challenges, with some £49m to be removed from our budgets over the next three years. Local government is under growing pressure from the centralising tendency of the SNP government.

“Liberal Democrats are completely committed to maintaining a vibrant local democracy and I know we can play a key role in defending the values shared by the overwhelming majority of Aberdeenshire residents.”

Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Willie Rennie MSP said, “Karen Clark and Fergie Hood will make a great leadership team and they have my full support.”
