Rehearsals for Ellon Academy’s end of term school play are well underway.

The school will be staging its first ever full musical showcase next week ahead of their summer holidays.

The academy are gearing up to perform The Sound of Music production.

Pupils ranging from first year right up to S6 have been rehearsing since February time mainly during their lunch breaks.

Drama teacher and one of the directors, Mrs Louise Anderson told the Times that the cast have been working extremely hard in preparation for the musical.

Mrs Anderson said: “The pupils auditioned for the roles which were split up into singing and acting parts.

“This is our first full blown musical to be performed by the school.

“The pupils have all learnt their lines, have their costumes and are ready to go.”

Lead character, Maria, is to be played by Mairi Davidson, who said she is excited but nervous too about her role.

Musical director, Mr David Birse and director Mrs Cathy Fraser have also been involved in the production.

Mr Birse added: “Kirsty Fraser is our Choreographer.

“She has just finished her 6th year at Ellon Academy and has been a great advocate for music, drama and dancing with the Faculty.”

The cast perform the Sound of Music production in the school’s assembly hall on July 1, 2 and 3.

Tickets are on sale direct from the Main School Office at Ellon Academy.
