Ellon Civic Pride mark recognition
MEMBERS of Ellon’s Civic Pride have celebrated after winning a commendation at this year’s Formartine in Bloom Awards.
The group, who take responsibility for keeping Ellon looking good, received the accolade on , narrowly losing out to first placed Oldmeldrum.
The group gathered in Neil Ross Square last week to commence removal of the summer bedding plants, replacing them with
polyanthus to add a splash of colour to the town in the months to come.
Spokesman Mike Watson told the Times: “Now in its eighth year the Large Town category winner has alternated between Ellon and its neighbour Oldmeldrum, ensuring some friendly rivalry between the willing volunteers in both areas as well as providing some colourful displays to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
Wife Frances, who co-ordinates the group, added: “New volunteers are always welcome to participate in ECP activities which vary between planting, general tidying up and, plant watering. “Green fingers are not required, just a willingness to help make the town look better!”
Anyone interested in helping should contact Frances on 01358 721806.
