Friends from Ellon are celebrating after recently graduating from the same course at Robert Gordon University.

Lindsey Thompson and Ben Owen, both aged 22, were in the same year at Ellon Academy when they decided to study Computing Science at the university.

The pair both graduated at His Majesty’s Theatre with First Class Honours last Friday.

During their studies, the graduates picked up various achievements along the way.

Lindsey has been awarded the Francis Morrison Prize for the Best Honours project in Information Systems while Ben has won the Best Academic Achievement Award for final year Computing Science students.

Lindsey, who has been offered a graduate position with Total E&P UK, said: “I chose to go to RGU mainly due to the opportunity of a placement year in industry and it was definitely the highlight of my time at university.

“I won the Total E&P Scholarship in second year which meant I worked with the company for 15 months before finishing my degree and am very excited to start my graduate position there.”

Beginning to learn code at the age of 12, Ben has secured a job with Codify Ltd after completing his placement with the firm.

He said: “The best part of the RGU course was the placement - this was a fantastic opportunity and I would strongly recommend it to all computing students.”
