A group of young people in Ellon are gearing up to put on an event as part of Homecoming Scotland 2014.

The 16-24-year-olds attend the Lead Scotland (Linking Education with Disability) MCMC scope social group.

They recently put on an “Ellon’s Got Talent” show at Auchtercrag Care Home.

Sarah Ball, Lead Scotland learning co-ordinator for Aberdeenshire, said the young people had enjoyed the performance as much as the residents.

She added: “The young folk face daily battles with various impairments and disabilities. Having the opportunity to give back to their community allows them active citizenship.

“The group have recently been successful in being chosen to put on an event in Ellon for Scotland’s Homecoming 2014.”

The young people receive support towards what is described as a “positive destination” whether that is college, volunteering or a paid employment opportunity.

Sarah said: “In the MCMC (more choices more chances) social groups these young people are able to access support with literacy and numeracy, travel training, life skills, accessing information to develop new skills breaking down barriers they face in everyday life.”

The group has nine learners and four volunteers. Aberdeenshire Council funds the MCMC project.
