Ellon man’s funds quest for ChildLine

AN ELLON man who has raised thousands of pounds for a nationwide charity is once again donning his football boots.

Michael Topp has competed seven times in the ‘World Footie’ tournament to raise money for NSPCC’s ChildLine Service for Scotland, generating £1706 for the charity last year - the best sum of any team in the tournament.

Speaking to the Times, Michael said that he and the rest of the team - Jonathan McGillivray, Matthew Pratt, Greg Matthews and Barry Stott - were aiming to beat this record at the 2012 event.

He said: “The money we raise by taking part in the World Footie will help the NSPCC’s ChildLine Service for Scotland be a step closer to answering every child’s cry for help. All money raised in Scotland stays in Scotland, and goes towards supporting the ChildLine services in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.”

The five-a-side tournament takes place on May 26 at Goals, in Aberdeen, and at Powerleague, Glasgow, on June 2.

In addition to taking part in the World Footie tournament, the men will host a ‘Rock and Roll Bingo’ evening in the Station Hotel on June 1 to raise even more money for their charity of choice, with tickets available at J & K Shoes and Grays in Ellon. The group have also committed to donate some of their earnings to Cancer Research. In addition to his ChildLine fundraising, Michael will be competing in the Edinburgh 10k and Baxter’s River Ness 10k to benefit Macmillan Cancer Care. He has already competed in the Garioch, Fyvie Castle 5k and Run Balmoral 5k runs.

The group can be sponsored http://www.justgiving.com/ellonworldfootie2012.
