An Ellon group inspired to raise funds for cancer throughout 2014 have kick-started their started campaign with a £3,000 boost.
The group “Skelpin’ Cancer 2014’, managed to raise the sum from a ceilidh held last month in the town’s Victoria Hall.
Member, Lorna Keith said: “Our group began with about 24 of us, but several other family members and friends have joined us in our efforts.
“Each of us has had a close family member or friend affected by cancer of some sort and felt we could combine our ideas and time in a year-long effort to do what we can.
“The money raised will be split among several local cancer groups at the end of the year.”
“We are absolutely delighted to say that the ceilidh raised £3115 and wish to thank everyone who attended for dipping into their pockets and helping us make such a fantastic amount.”
The team are looking ahead to a games night held later this month, which will see Grant Campbell brave the pain for a sponsored leg wax in aid of UCAN.
The groups own Skelpin’ Cancer ‘Station to Station’ walk will be held on Saturday, August 24 from Udny Station to The Station Hotel.
Walkers may feel like sprinting to the finish line as a delicious afternoon tea awaits participants at the end.
They are also planning a ‘Rewind Ellon’ disco to be held on Saturday, November 8 in The Station Hotel.
The team would like to thank various ladies for their help with the smooth running of the ceilidh: Margaret Matthews and Alice Todd. Ann Cox, Gwen Low, Paula Gibson, Kathryn Bruce, Lorna Peace, Diane Clark, Anne Hill, and local businesses for their generosity and support.
