Fresh appeal for Ellon firefighters

A fresh appeal has been made for firefighters to address a shortage at Ellon Fire Station.

A fresh appeal has been made for firefighters to address a shortage at Ellon Fire Station.

RENEWED efforts are being made to recruit firefighters in Ellon.

Fire bosses have been experiencing a personnel shortage in the town for on-call during the day.

The Ellon station is currently down to 15 and would normally have around 20.

Watch manager Ron Beedie said they had been advertising but the response had been disappointing.

He told the Times: “We have one person undergoing training but ideally would want to recruit another four for day-time cover.”

Figures from the Ellon station indicated that of the 140 incidents responded to between January and November last year, 58 of them occurred between the hours of 8am and 5pm - the times when the station has the most difficulty arranging cover.

Potential recuits should be in good physical condition, live in the town and be readily available.

Anyone interested in joining as a firefighter should contact Mr Beedie on 07715705526 of visit grampianfireandrescueservice.org.uk

Mr Beedie was recognised in the New Year honours list for more than 35 years of service.

He received the Queen’s Fire Service Medal, which is awarded to long-serving fire personnel, which was also in recognition of his national and local fundraising.
