Volunteers from the Garioch area received long service awards recently at the Acorn Centre, Inverurie.

Commenting on the awards Aileen Macdonald, Locality Manager said, “Royal Voluntary Service feels it is essential our volunteers feel appreciated and valued for the huge contribution they make helping to support older people in their communities.

“Long Service Medals are given to volunteers who have given 15 years of service. Long Service Clasps are given once a volunteer has received a Long Service Medal and then goes on to give a further 12 years of service. Pin badges are awarded for 10-20, 20, 30, 40 and 50 years of service.

“The volunteers who were presented with awards have provided support to older people in their communities by providing transport, companionship, delivering library books to housebound readers and help with shopping over a number of years. With more volunteers in the area we could help even more local older people, and anyone interested in volunteering in their local community should contact our Aberdeenshire Hub on (01467) 626012.”

Unfortunately Ann Shand, Catherine Cass, Elma Ross, Margaret Cooper, Linda Edwards, and Eleanor Douglas could not attend in person to receive their awards.
