Get drumming with Modo

Theatre Modo has announced the creation of drumming bands in Peterhead, Mintlaw and Fraserburgh.

With funding from Creative Scotland, through the Youth Music Initiative, Modo will be setting up regular drumming sessions in the three towns in the hope of setting up permanent drumming groups.

Whether you have drummed before, or always fancied a shot, this is a great chance to try something new and become part of a new drumming bands.

The drumming style is based on the Brazilian samba style with each person playing a single instrument (drums, bells, shakers etc). Over the weeks participants will learn new rhythms and ways of playing and create pieces for performances.

The bands will hopefully take part in various events but the biggest so far definite is the Maelstrom, the Shell Fireworks Parade, in Fraserburgh on November 2.

Martin Danziger, artistic director for Modo North East, said: “Sessions are free and open to everyone over 10 and no drumming or musical experience is necessary. There will be sessions every week leading up to the parade, after which we will hopefully set up the bands to carry on under their own steam.” Sessions will be at Peterhead Community Centre on Tuesdays from 3.45-5.30pm; Fraserburgh Community Centre Tuesdays 6.15-8pm; Mintlaw Community Huts Wednesdays 3.30-5.30pm. For more information call Martin on 01779 473269.
