Good effort from Ellon musicians
ELLON’S Rotarians have hailed the town’s young musicians, after they participated in the District Heats of the Rotary’s annual Young Musician Competition in Perth.
The heats took place on Saturday, March 2 and Ellon’s two previously successful young musicians travelled with anticipation of winning through to the Regional finals to be held in Dalkeith on April 7th.
However, there was fierce competition and our instrumentalist, Rachel Havlin (violin) and our vocalist, Emily Louise Ross, were unsuccessful in advancing to the next stage of the competition. Nevertheless they both received high praise from the adjudicators, who specially mentioned them in their summing up.
Commenting, the judges said that Rachel had remarkable poise and impressive fiddle technique, whilst Emily sang beautifully and with confidence and showed courage in singing unaccompanied in front of a large audience. Speaking afterwards, a Rotary spokesman said that the girls had shown themselves to be great ambassadors for Ellon.
The Young Musician Competition, run by Ellon Rotary every year, gives young musicians up to the age of 17 years, a platform to display their talents and gain confidence in a non-threatening environment.
Next year’s competition heats will be starting as early as August of this year and a large entry is hoped for.
