Haddo Estate regeneration
Haddo Pheasantry
FUNDING for the regeneration of Haddo Estate has been secured and work on the popular visitor attraction is now underway.
After a year of consultations, planning meetings and tender negotiations, CHAP Construction was awarded the contract for the works.
CHAP will co-ordinate the regeneration programme from an office located near the car park and will be onsite for most of 2013 with a work schedule of 40 weeks.
The regeneration project covers a wide range of areas at Haddo, but every effort is being made to ensure that all events and activities continue with as little disruption as possible, with the message to visitors being ‘business as usual’.
The funding secured has facilitated the employment of a full-time visitor services officer and Denise Belshaw will be onsite throughout and beyond the refurbishment stage.
Work at the estate includes new toilet facilities at the pheasantry and some redecoration of the ones within the NTS stable block. The council maintenance sheds will mvoe up into the area behind Carpenter’s Cottage and the area reshaped and landscaped to create a new adventure plan area. The existing play area will be removed.
There will also be refurbishment of monuments, gates, statues and pathways throughout the park, including the golden gates and monuments at the top of the Scots Mile.
A new carpark and walkway at Craigiewood will, when complete, lead into the existing car park via the Deer Wall gates., where visitors can walk down to a new bridge across the dam.
A new visitor centre, housed in the stable block, will include information and displays on Haddo.
