Home Energy Scotland Hotline helping to make warm our homes

Thousands of households across the country are enjoying warmer homes this winter after calling the Scottish Government’s Home Energy Scotland hotline and receiving advice and support.

People throughout Aberdeenshire, who haven’t yet benefited, are being urged to join them by calling now on 0808 808 2282 to find out what they may be entitled to.

The Home Energy Scotland hotline is a free, impartial energy advice and support service for householders all over the country.

Many are eligible to have insulation, boilers and central heating installed for free and one call to the hotline is all it takes to find out if you qualify.

Since its inception in 2009, the hotline has helped more than 800,000 households to make their homes warmer and more energy efficient.

With over 250,000 physical measures including insulation, boilers and central heating already installed across Scotland since the campaign began, the Home Energy campaign is reminding everyone today (6th February 2014) that there is still time to call and get help.

The Scottish Government has a budget of £74 million this year to help Scots reduce their fuel bills and transform Scotland’s housing stock into warmer, more efficient, greener homes – all part of actions to increase energy efficiency and tackle fuel poverty in 2013/14.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “The Home Energy Scotland hotline is the only source of clear and impartial advice to help people across the country make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat. Many people have already benefited by picking up the phone but many are also losing out by not finding out what they are entitled to and taking up initiatives.

“Anyone can apply for up to £1,200 towards home improvements that will make their homes warmer, greener and more cost-effective. The hotline’s advisers are friendly and there to help, one call is all it takes to find out what you might be eligible for.

“The hotline has already made a huge difference to thousands of homes across the country, helping Scots keep warm this winter and beyond. I would urge people across Aberdeenshire to pick up the phone to the hotline now to find out how they can benefit.”

A home that isn’t well insulated can lose more than 50 per cent of its heat through its roof and walls, yet just a quarter of Scots surveyed would consider getting new insulation compared to the 71 per cent that said they would consider wearing a coat or extra jumper indoors in order to keep their bills low.

The Home Energy Scotland hotline’s expert advisers can inform callers which of the Scottish Government’s Home Energy Efficiency Programmes they qualify for, as well as giving personalised advice on how to make homes more efficient.

To find out exactly what you are eligible for - whatever your circumstances - call the Scottish Government Home Energy Scotland hotline now on 0808 808 2282 or go to www.homeenergyscotland.org.uk. Act now for a warmer home.
