IT was a day on which those good folk of Ellon who enjoy a flutter actually enjoyed handing over their hard earned cash.

The occasion was raising funds for cancer research, warmly backed by the staff of the recently opened Ladbrokes shop in Bridge Street, Ellon.

Manageress Alexis Simpson welcomed the chance to participate in the well supported charity. “We have been happy to play our part in partnership with our customers. It has been a lovely day with our staff helping make it a day to remember, while raising cash for a very worthwhile charity,” said Alexis, whose specially made stovies were all the talk among customers last Saturday.

“The home bakes were also brilliant,” said one customer too coy to give his name, but reflecting the good nature of the day. “It was a good fun occasion.” said Alexis. “We really have some good customers who have made it a pleasure for us all on the staff to come out here. Raising £201 was just wonderful.”

Local punter John Taylor summed up the feeling of users when he said: ”The staff have been just great since the place opened earlier in the year. Organising this fun day is a great gesture.”

Mr Talyor underlined his support for cancer research placing a £20 bet on Aberdeen to beat Dundee United at Tannadice on Saturday, promising to hand over the winnings to the kitty.

He added: “If the Dons win it won’t be big return, unless I get really good odds...!”
