Meldrum Academy Art Exhibition

TALENTED young Meldrum artists were given an opportunity to show their work off to the public, at a special art exhibition in Meldrum Academy on Monday.

Parents were invited along to view their childrens’ work, after judging took place by a panel of local Rotary members Martin Belshaw, Jim and Ray Walker, artists Rosemary Taylor and Jim Livingston, and headmaster Andrew Travis.

Teacher Irene Flint told the Times that she had been amazed by the quality of the entries to the exhibition.

“Every year we try to get different judges to bring new perspectives to the competition,” she said.

Among those who received commendations for their work were first year Naomi Hazlerigg, who is in S1. Her work - inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night - received a commendation from the panel.

Also taking a prize was sixth year Rowan Flint, who won a commendation for her portraits and plans to study painting and Print Making at Glasgow School of Art.

Last, but not least, sixth year Elen Caveney took an award for her human and animal representations. She told the Times that she plans to study art at college before heading to Dundee to study illustration, with a view towards illustrating children’s books.
