Meldrum Academy maths teacher in B9170 smash

TWO men aged 30 and 17 were left in a critical condition following a serious road accident on the B9170 Oldmeldrum to Inverurie road on Wednesday, March 21.

The collision, which happened near Barravale at around 8.20pm, involved two vehicles - a Toyota Celica and a Honda Civic.

Retained Grampian Fire and Rescue crews from Oldmeldrum and Inverurie were called to the scene. Paramedics treated one of the casualties at the scene, while the other had to be cut free from the vehicle.

Both drivers were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. Subsequently, police have described the men as being in serious, but not life threatening conditions.

It has emerged that one of the drivers involved in the accident is Martin Coutts, a Mathematics teacher at Meldrum Academy. The former trainee fingerprint officer, who graduated from Paisley University with a BSc in Applied Maths and Computing, began teaching in Aberdeenshire in 2006, first at Peterhead Academy, before moving to Meldrum Academy in 2008.
