Hundreds of Mintlaw Academy pupils began to consider their futures at a recent careers fair.

Organised by Ideas in Partnership, the fair saw more than 40 organisations visit the social area of the Buchan school to explain what careers they can offer.

Pupils from S3 upwards were invited to attend and spoke to representatives from organisations as diverse as Genesis Recruitment and the armed forces.

Naomi Davies from organisers Ideas in Partnership said: “We begin by doing presentations to S3 pupils to teach them about CV skills and how to dress for interviews.

“They then go away and research the companies who will visit the fair so they are prepared to ask questions.

“An event like this is also a great networking opportunity for the organisations who come to present.”

Recruitment agency Genesis work to put people of all ages into jobs.

Steph Bruce from the Aberdeen and Peterhead-based company said: “We can give out career advice and crucially CV advice, but we can’t look at putting them into jobs until they’re 18.

“Many of them already have ideas about what they want to do so we can point them in the right direction.”

Architect Philip Baxter told the Buchanie: “My job is great because it’s so varied - these guys are excited by that.”

The Ideas in Partnership careers fair will visit Peterhead Academy on Wednesday, March 4.
