Newburgh Golf course plagued by vandals
GOLFERS at Newburgh-on-Ythan have been left angry after a spate of thefts and vandalisms at the club.
An attempted theft took place on March 30 from the greenkeeper’s shed on the course, with a private gold caddy discovered to be missing. However the vehicle was recovered, having appeared to run out of petrol according to police.
Greenkeeper Jimmy Peace told the Times that he suspected the problem was being caused by groups of youths who had been spotted hanging about at the club.
“It’s happened three times now,” he told the Times. “We put new locks on the shed, but whoever broke in hacksawed off the locks. We’ve noticed groups of them hanging about at the back of the clubhouse, and I suspect they might have something to do with it. It’s awful.”
Grampian Police confirmed that they are following up a positive line of enquiry in the case.
