Owen: repair these roads
AN ELLON councillor has re-iterated her calls for improvements to Balmacassie Business Park, following the announcement a planning application for an expansion of the estate’s civic amenities.
A new planning application for a civic amenity bulking point was dealt with at last week’s Formartine Area Committee, prompting Cllr Owen to call once again for the site’s owners to improve the roads there.
Speaking to the Times, Cllr Owen said: “I am disappointed that the road surface is still so bad. I have had numerous complaints and I cannot understand how any developer could leave it in such a state. Encouraging Power Jacks and BrewDog into Ellon - to name a couple of businesses - is marvellous, but the road surface does create problems. Travelling along the length of road, cars are reduced to zig zagging along it to ensure that they miss the terrible holes and raised drains. Filling with sand has not helped.”
Cllr Owen added that since the last Area meeting, matters had moved on.
She said: “I am advised by Property and Roads that the Developer has now been requested by Property to stop all surfacing works within the Balmacassie Industrial Estate until a new gas main is installed which is to service the Brewdog site. Property has written to other occupiers to determine if they are willing to contribute to the cost of the gas. Roads has advised that it is preferable to defer the final topcoat until the gas goes in as that would avoid a seam in the road which would likely give rise to ongoing maintenance costs. Property is chasing up replies so there is not currently a timescale attached to this although it is being actively worked on.”
