‘Pain’ means gain for Foveran trip

TEENAGE members of a Foveran Parish Church party heading to Uganda this summer have received a £1,000 boost from a rather “painful” fundraiser.
Shannon Dewars, Jess Stirton and Cameron Dow organised a body-waxing in the hall as part of a fun day to help raise £4,500 for the trip in July.
Ten volunteers put themselves forward to endure a fair degree of discomfort for a good cause.
Shannon told the Times: “We are delighted to have raised so much from the event. We’d like to thank everyone who supported us, including the beauticians and the volunteers.”
The church group will be travelling to Uganda to work with a charity called Kids Club Kampala (KCK).
Foveran Parish Church is already supporting the work of the club by raising funds through its Footprints Cafe.
KCK began by providing children in slum communities with the opportunity to develop skills and confidence through play. There are now 15 Kids Clubs running in Kampala on Saturdays staffed by local volunteers.
The Foveran team will work alongside local people to support and develop their projects.
Shannon, a child carer who has experience working with special needs children, said they would be holding further fundraisers, including a ceilidh.
