Police chiefs pledge on service
THE two police officers responsible for operational policing in the Grampian region have assured communities of a continued high level of service following transition to a single Scottish Police Force.
The Local Police Commander (LPC) for Aberdeen will continue to be Chief Superintendent Adrian Watson while Chief Superintendent Mark McLaren is LPC for the newly merged Aberdeenshire/Moray Division.
Each will be supported by a command team comprising two Superintendents and a number of Chief Inspectors, including a ‘Local Accountability Chief Inspector’ post, overseeing a variety of support functions and assisting the commanders in fulfilling the obligations of the new legislation.
In preparation for the introduction of the single force, both Commanders have been meeting with senior officers around the country to confirm what policing functions will be delivered within each of the divisions.
Ch Supt Watson, 45, joined the force in 1986, spending much of his career in Aberdeen, working in the General Enquiries Department and in CID in various roles and ranks. As a Senior Investigating Officer, he led on several major criminal inquiries in the city.
Chief Supt McLaren has been divisional commander for Aberdeenshire since January 2009 and will now also command the Moray area. He was at the forefront of the introduction of Grampian Police’s internationally recognised community-based Local Policing model, which aims to target local policing concerns.
Ch Supt McLaren emphasised that the quality of policing in Aberdeenshire and in Moray will be unaffected by the change in April.
He said: “Both areas enjoy relatively low crime levels and we are committed to enhancing our levels of service and working with partners to further enhance the quality of life for everyone who lives, works or travels in the area.”

“We recognise the importance of strong community links and will continue to work with our partners and build on past successes to reassure our communities.”
