Pupils receive drugs talk
PUPILS at Balmedie Primary were taught about the dangers of drugs last week, as PC Alison Durward gave an hour-and-a-half talk on the topic.
Pupils were also shown cases of reproduction drug samples, and invited to ask questions. PC Durward told the Times that the lessons were designed to equip youngsters with the knowledge they would need to make informed choices.
“The purpose of the talk is to make the youngsters aware of the sort of things they will potentially encounter as they get older, and to give them the information they need to make informed choices,” she said. “The talk covers the effects of drug use on individuals and communities, the legal position, and an opportunity to see what these drugs look like.”
Class teacher Kathryn Catlow added: “It’s part of the pupils’ citizenship work, with the idea being that they’ll grow up to make healthy choices. PC Durward’s talk is a chance to tackle the issue of drugs in a child-friendly environment.”
