A leading North-east organics recycling company has announced a key appointment.

New Deer-based Keenan Recycling has appointed Andy Gunn as transport and logistics manager, following the launch of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations, at the start of the year.

The new laws require all businesses producing more than 50kg of food waste per week to separate this from landfill waste. By January, 2016, any businesses producing more than just 5kg of food waste per week will need to recycle it.

Keenan Recycling launched its commercial food waste collection scheme in 2010 to help businesses divert food waste away from landfill, and operates a fleet of six specialist food waste lorries.

Mr Gunn, 45, has 20 years’ experience in the transport and logistics industry, and will use this to oversee the operation of the firm’s fleet of lorries and drivers.

He said: “I have worked with a number of companies in the past, and I am skilled in a number of different areas.

“I will use my broad knowledge and experience of the industry in my role to maximise routes and efficiencies to ensure we continue to deliver a first-class service to our customers.”
