Rotarians hand out £2,000 to good causes

ELLON’S Rotarians handed over hundreds of pounds of funding to local good causes on Thursday, after a successful year’s fundraising.

The group disbursed £2,000 worth of grants to a number of local groups who had successfully applied for funding. Among those to benefit were: The Victoria Hall Trust, to upgrade curtains within the hall and for a new sign outside; Ellon Primary School, to support outings for Children with additions support needs; The Ellon Editors, for an electronic whiteboard within the Ellon Resource Centre; Gordon Park Preschool, for the purchase of an iPad to assist with learning; the Friends of Pitmedden School, for a large picnic table built by Wood Recyclability for use at meal times; Tarves Festive Lights, for the purchase and maintenance of festive lights in the village; Newburgh Gardening Group, for improvements in the village; Ellon Civic Pride, for improvements to the town; and Inspire, for a disco and food for the residents.

The funds for the projects in question were raised at the group’s annual charity golf outing, which was held last September at McDonald Golf Club, Ellon.

Rotarian Kenny Winton, who presented the donations on behalf of the club, said: “it’s great to be able to assist so many worthy causes within the wider Ellon Community with both small groups and the community at large benefiting from our fundraising efforts. Whilst we have been unable to provide funding for the total cost of the individual projects we are confident our donations will help each of the worthy causes.”

The next round of applications to Ellon Rotary’s Community Grants Scheme will be advertised later in the year.
