A SPECIAL two-day course on maintaining and managing amenity, farm and estate woodlands, will be held at the Scottish Traditional Skills Training Centre later this month.

The course, to run on September 19 and 20, will combine expert tuition with practical hands-on experience to provide those attending with an understanding of the skills and techniques required to sustainably manage and maintain amenity, farm and estate woodlands.

The extensive woodlands within the policies and designed landscape of The National Trust for Scotland’s Fyvie Castle and surrounding area provide an ideal venue for the course, which will address a broad range of skills and techniques for achieving effective, efficient and sustainable woodland management.

The course is aimed at staff of local authorities, national parks, university estates departments and government agencies, as well as members of community woodland associations, conservation organisations, private individuals, farmers, estate staff and landowners.

It is available to a maximum of 12 delegates and runs from 9.30am to 4pm each day. Sandwich lunches, as well as tea/coffee and sandwiches, will be provided.

Course instructor is Donald McPhillimy, a self-employed forester and acknowledged authority on all aspects of woodland conservation, management and maintenance.

Those attending are required to wear stout footwear and outdoor clothing. Boilersuits, hard hats, safety goggles and gloves will be provided.

The course fee is £175 per delegate. To book a place or find out more, call (01888) 511347 or to beook a place email soundcraft@towiebarclay.co.uk
