A young woman has died after getting into difficulties while swimming in the sea off Balmedie.
It is understood she was helped ashore by members of the public about 6.45pm on Sunday night.
The woman, 26, was flown by helicopter to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she died.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 26-year-old female has died at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after being rescued from the sea near Balmedie Beach, Balmedie.
“Inquiries are continuing and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
