The ‘apprentice’ makes a splash!
Udny woman Nicola Buchan, a council apprentice, will represent Scotland in the national final of Young Painter of the Year.
A YOUNG Udny woman has won the Scottish heat in a national competition recognising young talent in the painting and decorating field.
Nicola Buchan, 20, from Logierieve, will now represent her country in the national final of the Johnstone’s Paint Young Painter of the Year 2012.
The annual competition celebrates young talent, promotes best practice in painting and decorating and encourages young people to pursue careers in the industry.
Nicola, a second year painting and decorating apprentice with Aberdeen City Council, was up against 16 apprentices from across Scotland. She now has her sights set on the national title, the winner of which will be announced during an event in Coventry in November.
Aberdeen City Council apprentice mentor, Douglas Gibb, praised Nicola for consistently producing a very high standard of work.
He added: “This is fantastic news for Nicola and she thoroughly deserves this recognition.
“Nicola started working for the council as n apprentice in August, 2010, and from day one she has shown a real passion for the job.
“She was over the moon when I told her I was nominating her for the Young Painter of the Year award and she could not believe it when her name was read out at the event in Glasgow last month.
“Everyone who works with Nicola is extremely proud of her and we wish her all the best in the national finals.”
