Business was brisk for some traders in Ellon over the festive season, while others reported it quieter than in recent years.
Overall, local businesses seemed happy with spending by shoppers over the Christmas period.
Kevin Reid, of K & C Jewellers, told the Times trade was up on last year.
He said: “We had a great response from customers and this year was better than last.
“Silver jewellery was popular and sold well. We have a sale on until the end of January.”
Jules Davidson, of Jules Healing Gems, said trade had been “absolutely fantastic”, adding: “It was a late start, but a week or so before Christmas it really took off.
“We had fantastic support from our customers.”
Derek Ritchie, of Costcutter, said there had been strong demand for butchery orders in the run-up to Christmas.
He added: “It seems to be busier at Christmas than New Year these days.”
Meanwhile, Bill Kelly, who runs Better Read Books, said: “It was slow and it was late this year.
“We had some increase in our sales, but not as good as last year.
“We now have a sale running until the end of the month.”
Laura Merritt, of The Chocolate Bar, said it was a quieter festive season than in previous years, but they were still pleased with sales.
She added: “It could have been the weather, but some people were saying it did not have a Christmas feel about it.”
