The death of a Balmedie farmer in an accident at a Mearns grain plant has left his family devastated.

David Leslie, died on his 49th birthday on Monday of last week as he collected a load from East Coast Viners Grain at Drumlithie, near Stonehaven.

The arable farmer’s family are struggling to come to terms with his untimely death and have paid tribute to him.

They said of the former Bridge of Don Academy pupil: “David was a truly genuine person who had a bubbly and infectious personality. He normally had a smile on his face and could always be relied upon to brighten your day.

“He enjoyed hill walking, photography and music. But he particularly enjoyed meeting and helping people.

“David could always be asked to help or would be the first to volunteer his services. David could do ‘anything’ and did it competently and well.”

Mr Leslie left school at 16 to begin an agricultural course at Clinterty College. He then worked full-time on the family farm withn his father before taking control several years later.

He is survived by his father Pat, older sister Sheila, brother-in-law James, nephew Steven and niece Carolyn.

Grampian Police said that a report on the incident will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
