Udny Green hoist their Green Flag
UDNY Greenpupils,teachers and parents celebrated last Friday as the school hoisted its Green Flag, awarded in recognition for the school’s environmentally friendly policies.
The awards are handed out to schools which meet certain environmental benchmarks, including measurements of recycling, litter picking and energy monitoring.
It is the third Green Flag which has been awarded to 31-pupil Udny Green School.
Head teacher Susan Hogg said the children are very enthusiastic about eco projects.
She added: “We have to cover about nine different areas and are assessed every two years to make sure the projects are up to standard.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded our third Green Flag.
“Our previous awards have been for inside the school but we now have a flagpole. It makes the school very proud.”
There was a good turnout of parents at last Friday’s flag-raising ceremony. The pole was donated by Claymore Homes.
Among those who attended were those who helped the children with their vegetable garden and the building of an eco greenhouse.
Susan Hogg said: “All of the children take part in the work towards the Green Flag, although the older ones obviously are more involved.
