What to expect at the annual food festival

A food festival is expected to deliver a £1 million boost to a North-east town this weekend.

The biggest food festival in Scotland - The Taste of Grampian - held in Inverurie is set for more crowds than ever this weekend.

Now attracting over 12,000 visitors, the annual event has steadily been growing over the last 14 years since it started,

Initially designed to stimulate the local food economy, this year’s event proves the faith that businesses have in showcasing at such an event as the stands sold out in record time and sponsorship of the event completely sold out with two months to go.

Nearly half of the stand holders (46%) received higher sales than they had expected at last year’s event.

Almost all of their organisers ( a whopping 94% ) also wanted to re book following the successful day they had in 2013.

Renowned for great local produce, Grampian boasts fine food and whisky, as well as fresh seafood and fabulous fruit and vegetables.

On Saturday, June 7 at the Thainestone Centre in Inverurie the 15th Taste of Grampian event will be held and visitors can take advantage of the range of amazing local produce which will be on offer.

Taking centre place will be a magnificent seafood display.

Visitors will be able to take their pick from a number of seafood cookery demonstrations using fish landed within 24 hours of the show.

A fishmonger from Fraserburgh completed an 80 mile round trip just to restock on the day last year because the sales were so good.

The main sponsors title has been scooped up by Town and Country Apartments for the first time at this year’s event.

The firm’ Business Development Manager, Richard Booth said that he has been to every event over the last 14 years and he loves it.

He said: “We are a local growing business and are passionate about supporting other local businesses in Grampian.

“We also give all our guests a welcome grocery pack and always use local suppliers therefore promoting short food miles and showcasing the best of food that is on our doorstep to our visitors.”
