Ellon Civic Pride has been welcoming on board some younger local members this year.

Adam Simpson and Alex Budge have been assisting in activities to help towards gaining the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Vanessa Morrison, 14, from Houston, Texas, was recently on holiday visiting her grandparents in Ellon when she saw members of ECP carrying out some planting and decided to help.

Frances Watson, group co-ordinator, said: “Vanessa was passing in her aunt’s car en-route to Aberdeen when she saw members planting flower beds on South Road. She made contact with me and we were delighted to have her join us on a few evenings during her holiday in Ellon.

“Her contribution and that of Adam and Alex was very welcome and it is encouraging that persons of their age wish to get involved”.

Civic Pride members have been active in preparing summer bedding plants and hanging baskets for siting in and around the town centre. The voluntary group are grateful for the support provided by local traders who sponsor the hanging baskets which this year total 82. ECP has also been instrumental in having the path leading from South Road/Rectory Avenue to the Old Bridge widened and improved.

Anyone interested in joining the activities of Ellon Civic Pride should contact Frances Watson on 01358 721806.
