Zumbatomic Tarves!
PUPILS at Tarves Primary were giving something new a try on Monday, with a ‘Zumbatomic’ session.
Pupils from P1-3 took to the floor of the school hall with trained Zumba leader Angie Urquhart, who led the youngsters in a selection of Latin-inspired dances including ‘The Chihuahua’ and ‘The Robot’. Pupils from older classes are set to take part in the classes later this week, and Angie is set to visit other schools in the area as part of a Formartine-wide programe.
Active Schools Co-ordinator Erica Jones told the Times that the scheme was designed to get youngsters active and healthy.
“It’s designed to be a crazy, fun workout for kids - the aim of the game is get them active, and make sure they have some fun at the same time,” she said. “It appeals to those who maybe wouldn’t be in the way of taking part in traditional competitive sport, and it’s something new for them.”
She added that the exercises were patterned after adult Zumba classes, which have become very popular in recent years.
“It’s a big thing these days, and it gives the kids a taste of what the adult classes are like,” she said.
