A GROUP of enthusiastic local knitters have handed over a hundred blankets to a very good cause.

Eileen Davidson, from Ellon, and Elaine Ironside from Cullen made the donation on Tuesday, with the blankets gratefully received by Project Linus co-ordinator, Jean Pritchard.

The charity aims to bring comfort to sick and distressed children with the gift of a blanket or patchwork quilt.

Speaking to the Times, Jean said: “The selfless ladies from Buchan and Ellon Parish Church of Scotland, some of whom began knitting in 2006 and who are now in the 90s, are still knitting for charity. Donated fabric and wool is gratefully received to help these anonymous ladies to maintain their steady output. In just four years Grampian’s army of ladies has produced 3528 blankets - well done ladies of north-east Scotland.”
