Ellon’s British Red Cross shop has reopened after a major refit.

The shop was officially opened on Monday morning by local Councillor Gillian Owen.

Councillor Owen said: “The refurbishment is wonderful and I hope the residents of Ellon will enjoy the new facilities including the superb new book section.”

Shop manager Elma Hay, on behalf of Ellon Red Cross presented Mrs Owen with flowers.

The councillor thanked all the volunteers for their dedication and the many supporters who donate goods. She urged local shoppers to support the charity particularly the new loyalty scheme.

The charity shop was closed slightly longer than the planned two weeks, but manager Elma says it was worth the wait.

She said: “I’m really excited about the new shop and hope lots of new people come in and see us.

“The book room has been extended, we have more shelving, new flooring and the new lighting has a made a big difference.”

As well as a new, improved counter, the bric-o-brac has been organised around a colour scheme.

There will also be different promotions every month and discounts to those with loyalty cards.

One shopper said: “It’s really nice, I will be telling my friends to come and see it, I practically live here!”

This month’s current promotion is to buy five books for £5. Head along and check out the new shop and grab a bargain.
